Most autopsy reports are public record under the Colorado Open Records Act, C.R.S. § 24-72-204(3)(a)(I). Autopsy reports of minors are not considered public record and may only be released to certain individual and/or entities identified in C.R.S. § 30-10-606.7, such as the minor’s parent or legal guardian upon appropriate attestation.
Autopsy reports may not be finalized for 8 to 12 weeks after the initial exam, depending on the nature of the case and any additional testing that needs to be performed.
Typically, there are no fees for receiving a report. However, charges may apply in accordance with the time and effort needed to fulfill mass requests.
Autopsy Report requests will be disclosed in compliance with the Colorado Open Records Act. If the report cannot be released for any reason, we will contact you.
Requests can be mailed to the Coroner’s Office, submitted via the form below, or emailed to heathertremblay@elpasoco.com.
