About Dr. Emily Russell-Kinsley, M.D.

A photo of Dr. Emily Russell-KinsleyDr. Emily Russell-Kinsley was appointed Coroner by the Board of County Commissioners on January 1, 2025. She previously served as the Deputy Chief Medical Examiner for the El Paso County Coroner’s Office from 2019 until her appointment in 2025.

Her career as a medical examiner began in 2012, and since that time she has been recognized for her leadership and contributions to the field. In 2019, she was appointed as the forensic pathology representative for the Colorado Cold Case Task Force. Additionally, she has been a member of the Colorado Coroner’s Association Board of Directors since 2019, working to enhance practices and policies for death investigation statewide. Her involvement in related legislation reflects her commitment to improving the coroner system in Colorado for the benefit of communities across the state. Dr. Emily Russell-Kinsley brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her position as El Paso County Coroner.

Education:

Dr. Russell-Kinsley earned her Doctor of Medicine degree in May 2007 from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center at the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine. In 2011, she finished her four-year anatomy and clinical pathology residency at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. Subsequently in 2012, Dr. Russell-Kinsley completed a forensic pathology fellowship at the Dallas County Medical Examiner’s Office in association with University of Texas Southwestern.
